Allergy can be defined as an over-reaction of the body towards various external elements. The substances leading to such over-reaction are termed "allergens". And the over-reactions are the symptoms of allergy. Most of us suffer from various types of allergies. Allergies range the gamut from a dog allergy to egg allergies. The symptoms of allergy differ from person to person. Some are mild, some very serious. But, given severe reactions, allergy elimination has to be on top of our minds. A complete cure may not be possible, but prevention of allergy is possible. But to prevent, we must define and identify that which we are fighting.
Below are brief descriptions of five of the most common types of allergies.
1. Food Allergy: This is one of the more common types of allergies. With this allergy, consumption of foods such as eggs, milk, peanuts, etc., can trigger allergic symptoms. The symptom may range from skin rashes to breathing problems.
2. Pet Allergy: Some people, particularly children, are allergic to pets. They develop symptoms like a runny nose, sore throat, watery eyes, etc., on contact with the pet's skin.
3. Allergic Rhinitis: Also known as hay fever, it's an allergy towards outdoor, air-borne foreign materials like pollen that are seasonal in nature. Symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, itching, bloodshot eyes, etc.
4. Mold Allergy: Another of the more common types of allergies, mold allergy is intolerance towards mold, dust mites, fungi, etc. Contact with any of these substances leads to allergic symptoms like sneezing, asthma, and throat infections.
5. Insect Allergy: Some people are allergic to certain types of insect bites. They develop hives, blisters, itchy sores, swelling and pain upon insect bite.
Remember, there are many people who are allergic to various substances; allergy elimination is possible only by identifying, and subsequently avoiding, the relevant allergens. The above classification of allergic substances into different types of allergies aims to help you identify possible allergens in an effort to promote allergy elimination.
